“Right now one of the oldest Russian political prisoners Yury Dmitriev is in urgent need of help!” writes his supporter Lisa Chernyavskaia.

On 25 September 2026, 70-year-old Russian historian Dmitriev was urgently transferred from Penal Colony 18 to the camp’s medical facility in Barashevo, the Mordovian camp system, due to a suspected stroke (see CCE Map 4.3, 1971; Camp 18 is at the bottom, Barashevo at the top, of this map).

However, this “hospital” does not posses the necessary diagnostic and treatment equipment to deal with such conditions as CVA, adds Chernyavskaia. Yury Alexeyevich needs to be transferred to a city hospital.

It is also essential to grant his lawyer immediate access to him. The lawyer will attempt to see Yury Dmitriev on Saturday, 26 September, almost certainly he will not be allowed in over the weekend.
