“The Mysteries of Sandarmokh”, A book review

Even before Yury DMITRIEV was arrested in December 2016, an alternative explanation of the mass burials at Sandormokh had appeared (see below, Appendix).

Promoted by two historians at Petrozavodsk University, Sergei Verigin and Yury Kilin, it suggested that among those executed and buried in the forest near Medvezhegorsk were not only victims of Stalin’s Great Terror (1937-1938) but also Red Army soldiers shot by the Finns during the Continuation War (1941-1944).

Prosecutor wants Dmitriev locked up in a madhouse

After the court-appointed assessment did not find child pornography in any of the photographs in the Dmitriev case, the prosecution, represented by YELENA ASKEROVA, Petrozavodsk city prosecutor, petitioned for a new assessment to be made of the photos of YURY DMITRIEV’s foster daughter.

Furthermore, Ms Askerova once again recommended that the court approach a private firm, not a State expert organisation.

She did not stop there, however.

Photos not pornographic, say new forensic experts

A new assessment of the photographs of YURY DMITRIEV’s foster daughter was scheduled by the court: the photos constitute the main evidence against the head of the Memorial Society in Karelia. Yesterday, during the interval in the proceedings at this famous case, Dmitriev’s defence attorney VICTOR ANUFRIEV announced to waiting journalists that the new forensic experts had found no element of pornography in the photos.  The defence had not yet had a chance to examine in detail the conclusions of the new experts, said Anufriev, adding that not one of the photographs of the child forming part of the prosecution case had been recognised as pornographic. “Furthermore, the [new] expert assessment confirmed that there had been no sexual motive in the preparation of the photographs,” added Anufriev, “only a concern to monitor the child’s health.”
